The moment most people hesitate is not the price. It is the moment they are asked to send a login for an account they paid for. That hesitation is reasonable, so this article walks through prop firm account passing from start to finish, including the parts a provider would rather not dwell on.
Before anything is shared
Three things should be settled before you send a single detail.
- You buy the evaluation yourself, directly from the prop firm, in your own name. That is what makes the funded account yours at the end.
- You have checked the firm’s terms on third-party trading. Some firms restrict it. Our article on whether a passing service is allowed covers how to check.
- You have the terms in writing: the plan, the fee, what happens if the evaluation fails. Our plans are on the pricing page.
What you share, and what you never share
| Share | Never share |
|---|---|
| Trading platform login for the evaluation account | Your bank or card details |
| Server name and platform type | Identity documents |
| Account size and the firm’s rule set | The email password for your prop firm dashboard |
| Any existing drawdown on the account | Two-factor authentication codes |
A trading platform login lets someone place trades on one evaluation account. It does not give access to your money, your identity, or the dashboard where payouts are requested. Any provider asking for items in the right-hand column is a reason to stop.
Keep watching without touching anything
Most MetaTrader accounts come with two passwords: a master password, which can trade, and an investor password, which can only view. The desk needs the master password to work the account. You can keep the investor password and log in whenever you like to watch every position and the balance in real time, with no risk of placing a trade by accident.
Other platforms handle this differently, so ask the firm what read-only access they offer.
The first day
Once the details arrive, a competent desk does the unglamorous checks before any trade:
- Confirms the login works and the balance matches what you described.
- Confirms the rule set: drawdown type, daily reset time, consistency rule, minimum days.
- Sets the personal daily stop and per-trade risk for that specific account.
- Sends you a first update so you know work has started.
Day to day
You should hear from the desk regularly, including on days when nothing happens. A quiet market is a normal reason for a quiet day, and a good provider says so rather than placing trades to look busy. Ours updates clients on Telegram, where the average response time is around five minutes.
Your side of the arrangement
Prop firm account passing only works if one party trades the account. While the desk is working:
- Do not log in with the master password and place trades. Two people working one drawdown limit is how limits get breached.
- Do not change the password mid-evaluation without telling the desk.
- Do not connect trade copiers or other tools to the account.
How the account comes back to you
When the target is reached and the firm confirms the pass, the funded account is issued in your name. Do not assume a new funded account ends every previous session. Revoke permissions, rotate shared trading passwords and terminate sessions using the firm’s controls.
From there you choose. You can trade the funded account yourself, or have the desk keep managing it under one of our monthly plans. Our guide to the funded account covers both routes.
If something goes wrong
Evaluations fail. No provider can promise otherwise, and our 95% pass rate across supported firms is a track record rather than a guarantee. If an account is in trouble, you should hear about it the same day, not after the fact. If it fails, the evaluation fee paid to the firm is lost, and service fees are not refundable once trading has begun, because they pay for the work rather than the outcome.
Common questions
Is it safe to share my prop firm login?
A trading platform login only allows trading on that one evaluation account. It does not give access to your bank, your identity, or your prop firm dashboard. Share nothing beyond the platform login, and use the investor password to watch the account yourself.
Can I watch my account while it is being passed?
Yes. On MetaTrader accounts you can use the investor password, which is view only, to see every trade and the balance in real time without any risk of placing a trade.
Can I trade the account myself while the desk is working?
No. Two people trading one account against a shared drawdown limit is how limits get breached, and it can also create problems with the firm. Stay off the master login until the evaluation is finished.
What happens to my login after the evaluation is passed?
When the evaluation ends, revoke delegated permissions, rotate any shared trading password and terminate active sessions using your firm's controls. Do not assume a new account automatically ends every session. Optional funded management requires a separate scope and eligibility check.
Do I get a refund if prop firm account passing fails?
No. Service fees cover the trading work carried out on your behalf and are not refundable once trading has begun. The evaluation fee paid to the prop firm is also lost if the account fails.
